Improving the health of Johnson Houses residents by using natural energy to cleanse the community’s air and create a comfortable outdoor experience.

PROBLEM

People in East Harlem are facing extremely hot weather in summer and a big amount of air pollution everyday.

High concentration of brick, concrete, and asphalt; keep nighttime temperatures high. A quarter of seniors can’t afford air conditioning. PM2.5 has a greater impact on East Harlem, its main source is Vehicle pollution. Both adults and children have a higher rate of asthma due to PM2.5

The movable installations allow residents to arrange them easily into configurations that serve different types of gathering, orientation to the sun or wind, and the relationship to open spaces.
